Hope Builders is looking for volunteers
to repair and rebuild homes on Vieques!
Volunteers will work with Hope Builders staff on Vieques Puerto Rico to complete repairs to homes damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria in September, 2017. Work may include repairing and replacing roofs; fixing windows and doors; and other property repairs. Volunteers may also be involved in the complete rebuild of homes that were destroyed or cannot be repaired. Volunteers will be divided into crews, each overseen by a construction supervisor and a locally employed construction worker.
Team Size: Our assignments are open to large groups and individuals. We offer long-term and short term opportunities.
Desired Skills: Volunteer assignments involve physical activity - typically outside in extreme temperatures. Volunteers should be in good physical health. General construction knowledge is desired, although we welcome all who are willing to learn! Volunteers may be asked to work on roofs or pitches up to 12ft. and use electric saws and power drills.
Age Requirement: Volunteers must be at least 13 years old. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Medical Considerations: Consult with your personal physician regarding any recommended vaccinations or precautions that may need to be taken prior to travel to Vieques.
What to Bring:
- Appropriate construction site apparel. Skin should be minimally exposed.
- Closed toed shoes. Sneakers or work boots are highly recommended. Work Gloves.
- Protection from the sun. Hat, visor or bandanna. Sunblock.
- Hope Builders T-Shirt to be used on job site.
